The HTC One X is the flagship of HTC's new One series of mobile smartphones. The One series epitomises style, function and ease of use. While most smartphones these days seem to have become rather dull slabs of technology HTC have managed to create a design that is genuinely new and exciting. The One X features a poly carbonate unibody shell that encases the phone in smooth matte plastic that feels incredibly solid and hard wearing yet is also very light. The screen is covered by toughened glass that curves down around the edges to seamlessly blend into the polycarbonate. The result is phone that feels great in the hand despite its large size and looks and feels like a real premium device. Something some of its competitors have struggled to evoke.
The HTC One X boasts amazing camera technology with HTC ImageSense, allowing you to take amazing pictures in any condition. ImageSense is HTC's name for their new improved camera technology. The HTC One X is the first smartphone to feature a dedicated image processing chip that takes the load off of the phones main processor. Combined with an industry leading f/2.0 lens this creates better looking photos with less blur and great low-light performance. You also get loads of cool new useful functions. Here are some of the highlights:
Quick Focus : capture photo with no delay with incredible shot-to-shot speed; Snap photos from HD video: Tap the screen shooting HD video to instantly capture a full resolution photo of the scene without interrupting the video. If you missed your shot the first time around, capture the photo when watching the video later; Continuous Shooting: capture up to 20 pictures in rapid succession; review photos in a new interface to review the ones you want to keep; Auto Tracking: tap on a moving subject and auto-tracking will follow to always keep in focus no matter if they are even 10 or 20 feet away; Auto-Adjusting Flash: no more harsh flash; the flash will sense how far away the subject is and auto-adjust to 1 of 8 flash settings for the most natural looking photo; Iconic UI experience/dual capture buttons: for the first time the camera interface has two capture buttons for quick capture of photos or video at any time.
The One X is the first phone, in what is sure to be many this year, which has a quad core processor. In particular it features nVidia’s Tegra 3 processor. As the follow up to last year’s Tegra 2 which powered many of 2011’s most popular smartphones and tablets the Tegra 3 offer’s superlative power and performance. Ultra, fast web browsing, FullHD video playback and seamless multitasking are now all within easy reach. The Tegra 3 processor even features a fifth smaller core that is used when the phone is running in idle or only performing simple functions. This allows the big 4 power hungry cores to switch off when not needed. The result is excellent battery life alongside awesome power. This is particularly handy as the One X does not have a user replaceable battery, something to be aware of if you like to take your phone on long trips.
HTC have once again added there popular Sense uses interface overlay to the Android operating system. In this case it’s the latest version of Android: version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Here however, they have dialled back Sense to a more streamlined and elegant experience. Gone is the heavy customisation and many quirky animations that may have become slightly cheesy and dated. In their place HTC have chosen to stick much more closely to a pure Android experience and in our opinion this is a good thing. There are still plenty of undeniably HTC ‘touches’ not to mention improvements. The lock screen for instance feature four customisable shortcuts that can be used to quickly launch the camera or other apps that you use often.
The HTC One X is the latest in an ever growing list of HTC smartphones to use Beats Audio. Here it is now built in to an even greater degree allowing you to enjoy the benefit of enhanced no matter what application or game you may be using. As part of the new HTC Sense experience, all new HTC One devices come with an exclusive 25GB of Cloud storage from Dropbox, so you can have all your files, music and photos with you when you're on the go. This cloud storage is free for 24 months for HTC customers and is integrated in the Sense user experience, so you can easily upload to your store and manage what is stored straight from your device. Any file you save to Dropbox also instantly saves to your computer, phone and the Dropbox website. You also don't have to worry about security as Dropbox protects your files without you needing to think about it. Combined with 16GB of built in storage this goes a long way to addressing one of our few issues with the One X: its lack of memory card slot and expandable storage.
