The Samsung Galaxy Ace runs Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ with Samsung customary Touchwiz overlay. While Gingerbread may be starting to show its age it’s still a great OS and runs very well on the Galaxy Ace’s modest 800Mhz processor. In terms of design the Ace has a relatively plain minimalist design that’s similar to a lot of other Samsung smartphones. Overall it’s understated and purposeful if not outright stunning. Likewise the Galaxy Ace’s 3.5 inch HVGA screen may not be the biggest or sharpest but is bright and responsive and is great for video and web browsing. Built in WiFi and fast 3g data access allow you to surf the web in most locations while GPS can locate you quickly anywhere on earth. The handset also offers support for tethering, enabling you to use it as a portable mobile broadband wireless hotspot to get online with up to five 3G enabled gadgets.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace is also surprisingly capable when it comes to the imaging department. The on board five megapixel camera with autofocus is perfect for capturing life's spontaneous moments and is capable of video footage as well as stills. And the ultra-bright LED flash means that you can expect great quality images even in the poor lighting.

Like all Android phones, the Samsung Galaxy Ace is brilliant for apps. Choose this superb handset and you'll be able to choose from a host of fantastic free and paid for applications and games from the Android Market. To get you started the phone comes preloaded with all the standard Google service such as Gmail and Maps with free turn by turn navigation. In addition Samsung have also added a few of their own apps like the Social Hub that integrates various social network feeds into one centralised location. ThinkFree is a powerful application for editing documents on the go. Swype is a nifty new way of inputting text. Instead of tapping on individual letters, which is often awkward and cumbersome on a touch screen, you press and hold on the screen and then drag or swipe your finger between the different letters. The phone can predict what you trying to spell and automatically adds spaces between each word. Other features of the Ace include a media player with robust support for multiple file types and codecs. This is an area that Samsung have always excelled and the Galaxy Ace is no exception playing almost any kind of file that you throw at it. The Galaxy Ace has a very limited amount of internal storage: just 158 MB. However, this can be expanded by plugging in a microSD card of up to 32GB in size. These memory card's have come down in price considerably lately so this isn't too much of a burden.
